PROGRAM OBJECTIVES:

This  introductory course is designed for engineers, geologists, petrophysicsts, and others who wish to have a better understanding of the methods and equipment used in modern directional drilling and surveying. The course will focus on the planning and simulated drilling of a highly deviated well path, including landing a medium radius horizontal section to a tight TVD tolerance. Lectures will also cover the main elements of borehole surveying and understanding well path uncertainty and how it affects well placement. Examples and case studies from a number of countries are presented. IMPORTANT Note: If you can, please bring a windows compatible laptop (preferably not Vista) with you to this class. Only one laptop is required for every two delegates, so don't worry if you cannot bring a suitable computer. It would also be useful to bring pen and paper and a scientific calculator. All materials will be provided electronically at the course, including a copy of the simulation software used throughout the training.
