PROGRAM INTRODUCTION:

This training program aims at providing the participants with the fundamental concepts of the different gas compressors used in the various industrial purposes. Participants will have in depth knowledge of improving performance, design methodology, equipment selection, proper operation, control systems, maintenance and troubleshooting through presentation of actual case studies.

Day #1

  • Fundamental fluid mechanics and thermodynamics for compressors.

  • Application of compressed air and gas.

  • Classification of compressors.

  • Compressors ranges and selections.

  • Reciprocating compressors, Main component of compressors, Crankshaft, Connecting rod, Cylinders, Pistons, Piston rings, Valves.

  • Material of the reciprocating compressors.

  • Different design of the reciprocating compressor, Single stage, Multistage, Single acting, Double acting.

  • Accessories of the reciprocating compressor, Air intake, Intake filters, Silencers, Inter-Coolers and After-Coolers, Air charge systems, Separators, Dryers, Receivers, Traps, Dampeners, Lubrication systems.

  • Advantage & disadvantage of the reciprocating compressors

  • Operation of reciprocating compressors.

  • Control of reciprocating compressors.

  • Maintenance and troubleshooting of reciprocating compressors.

  • Rotary compressors, Screw compressor and accessories, Vane compressor, Lobe compressor.

  • Operation and maintenance of rotary compressors.

  • Comparison between the reciprocating compressors and different types of compressors.

  • Video tape about assembly and disassembly of reciprocating compressor.

  • CD about the operation, starting, shutdown, troubleshooting and fault diagnosis of reciprocating compressors.

  • CD about the different types of rotary compressors with animation

 Day #3

  • Classification of dynamic compressors.

  • Axial compressor, Main component, Material of each part of compressor, Performance curve of the axial compressor.

  • Concept of compressor stability, Definition of stability, Operational stability, Stonewall line (Chock line), Stall line, Surge line.

  • Multistage axial compressors.

  • Centrifugal compressor, Classification of centrifugal compressor, Barrel and pipeline compressors, Centrifugal gas compressor main components, Flow physics through a centrifugal compressor, Performance curve of the centrifugal compressor.

  • Multistage centrifugal compressors.

 Day #4

  • Auxiliary equipment of centrifugal compressors, Seals and bearing.

  • Efficiency of centrifugal compressors.

  • Instability of centrifugal compressors, Rotating stall, progressive stall, abrupt stall, part span, full span, Surge, deep surge, mid surge, Surge conditions.

  • Static and dynamic anti-surge systems.

  • A new technology to avoid stall and surge.

  • Control of dynamic compressors.

  • Operation of dynamic compressors.

  • Failure mechanisms and monitoring of centrifugal compressor

 Day #5

  • Troubleshooting and maintenance of dynamic compressors.

  • A new technology in compressors.

  • An overview about gas and steam turbine components as a driven centrifugal compressor.

  • Case study on equipment failure such as: misalignment in a turbine driven centrifugal compressor.

  • CD explains assembly and disassembly of some dynamic compressors
